Big Ben Accused of Sexual Assault… Again.

For the second time in less than a year, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is being accused of sexual assault.   Yesterday afternoon, TMZ broke the story of Big Ben’s involvement in an incident which occurred at a nightclub in Milledgeville, Georgia.  The story has since been reported by the national media after being confirmed by the Georgia police.  The alleged victim, a 20-year-old female student from Georgia College & State University, was treated and released from the hospital on Friday morning.

The details of the night in question are still a bit hazy at this point, but what seems to be clear is Ben and a group of friends started the night drinking heavily at a bar called “The Brick” until about 1:30 a.m.   They then moved on to another club, Capital City, where the incident allegedly occurred.  Roethlisberger’s accuser claims she was in the ladies room when Ben entered and proceeded to assault her.

It sounds to me like Big Ben needs to put Little Ben on ice for a while…

NFL Hot Stove

A couple big moves are being made by both the Jets and Giants to sure up their defensive backfields.  Last night the Jets made noise by trading for Chargers defensive back Antonio Cromartie, who at 25 has significant upside, the Jets are believed to have given the Chargers a third-round draft pick in 2011, a pick that could escalate into a second-rounder pending Cromartie’s production.  Across town the Giants are trying to make a slash of their own in the free agent market by signing Arizona Safety Antre Rolle.  The Pro Bowl safety was releasedby the Cardinals yesterday — no big surprise, because he was due a $4 million bonus and an $8.1 million salary and they were unwilling to pay him in excess of $12 million for this season. The demand and price will be high for a 27-year old former first-round pick.  Also keep an eye out for the Giants to get involved in the bidding for Arizona Linebacker Karlos Dansby, although speculation is that the Giants are not willing to pay Dansby the 30 million dollars him and his mama think he’s worth.  We’ll keep you up to date throughout the day if any noise is made in NFL free agency.

**After being released by the Bengals yesterday ex-Jets receiver Laveranues Coles says that he is going to contact the Jets to see if they want him to return.

**It looks like the Chicago Bears are close to signing both Defensive End Julius Peppers and Running Back Chestor Taylor, two good moves for an organization that with no draft picks in 2010 desperately needs to bring in some help for next season.

NFL TO CHANGE OVERTIME RULES?

The NFL gets a lot of shit for its sudden-death overtime system, and it shouldn’t. There’s nothing wrong with a tiebreaking system that’s only 10 percentage points away from total randomness. As I’ve said before, the best way to not lose in overtime is to not get there, and I’m hard-pressed to invoke pity on a team that can’t get a stop on defense. The NFL, it seems, finally feels differently, as it reviews a proposal to modifythe only tie-breaking system it has ever had.

If it is approved, the rule, called “modified sudden death,” could be used in next year’s playoff games. The intent is to prevent a team from winning on a long field goal without giving the other team a possession, the way the New Orleans Saints beat the Minnesota Vikings in the N.F.C. championship game. –NYTimes.

In a nutshell, a team has to score six points in overtime to win the game, essentially guaranteeing the other team a possession unless they give up a TD. To me this pretty stupid.  If you are going to change OT fine, at least go to the NCAA system, none of this first to 6 wins nonsense…Anyway here are a few other proposals for NFL OT right now:

Whichever team has the ball in regulation loses it in OT. The idea behind this is that a team with ample time to score at the end of regulation would be forced to do so, rather than take a knee and hope for the best in the extra frame. Of course, this all goes out the window once teams decide to punt with three seconds remaining.

Bid for field position. This idea seems to be a fan favorite. In this situation, the officials would award the first overtime possession to the coach willing to take the ball closer to his own end zone. I’m a fan of doing this a la The Price is Right’s “Cliffhangers,” where the referee would march up the field from the goal line until one coach throws his flag, signaling his choice to take the ball at that spot. It’s very World Series of Poker, but it’s definitely more strategic than a coin flip.

Let the damn game end in a tie. Ties, generally, are unsatisfying to the American sports fan. I doubt that the anti-climactic experience of neither team winning for fans would offset the implied benefits of safety to players and predictability to television distributors. Ties aren’t the end of the world, and it certainly takes the flip of the coin out of the equation.

What overtime format would you like to see?

Super Bowl Spotlight: WTF is that?

With all of the press and notoriety that has come with Drew Brees winning this years Super Bowl MVP award, I felt the need to dig a little deeper and get the answer to the one burning question on everyone’s mind.  Just what in the hell is on Drew Brees’s face?  Although the answer was elusive at first, I was able to uncover a section of a NY Times article published on Brees in January of 2005.  Apparently people have been wondering about this thing for a long time.

“He was too short (he is listed at 6 feet), too weak, and besides, he always looked like he had mud on his face. Anyone taking a closer look would have noticed that the blemish on his right cheek was a birthmark, but it was so often confused for a patch of dirt that girls dancing with Brees would sometimes lick their fingers and try to wipe it off.”

“The hairy birthmark has become a symbol of Brees’s imperfections, which are noticeable but somehow charming. When Brees was 3, his parents considered having the birthmark removed, but doctors said that there was no harm in keeping it and suggested that the boy had been kissed by an angel. When he was in college and made the Playboy all-American team, the magazine airbrushed the birthmark from a photo that it ran.  Looking back, it was like airbrushing Cindy Crawford’s mole. A teammate wore Brees’s jersey to a Halloween party and applied a black mark to his cheek. The costume quickly became part of the fall wardrobe in West Lafayette, Ind. The stands would be filled with followers who smeared mud or mascara or some other substance on their faces.”

Well there you have it.  For all of us hoping it was some type if scar from a bear fight on Bourbon Street or where his Siamese twin was removed from, I am sorry to break the news to you.  Congrats to you Drew on your Superbowl victory, and if I ever see you I will try my best not to point and say moley…moley…moley…

Typical Friday night at my house

I haven’t really paid much attention to the Lingerie Football League so far.  Yeah it’s a cool idea but in today’s world a bunch of chicks in Lingerie is amateur hour compared to the sick fucking porn I can access at anytime through the wonders of the internet.  This recent promotion is pretty cool though.  The LFL decided to hold a contest in which the winning fan would get to tackle one of the players.  It would have been a lot cooler if some hot chick won but good for this kid.  I guarantee he hasn’t showered since.

The REAL Defensive Player of the Year

NEW YORK — Green Bay cornerback Charles Woodson has won The Associated Press 2009 NFL Defensive Player of the Year award.

The versatile Woodson tied for the league lead with nine interceptions, returning three for touchdowns, and was a key to the Packers’ turnaround on defense.

His role in Green Bay’s performance — second in the league in overall defense, first in interceptions (30), takeaways (40) and turnover margin (plus-24) — earned Woodson 28 votes from a nationwide panel of 50 sportswriters and broadcasters who cover the NFL.

He doubled the number of votes for New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis in becoming the first Green Bay winner since Reggie White in 1998 and just the second Packer in the 36-year history of the award.

What a fucking joke.  Darrelle Revis shut down the number 1 receiver on the opposing team week in and week out.  He is literally the reason the Jets are in the playoffs.  Rex Ryan’s blitzing defense doesn’t work unless you have a bonafide shut down corner.  Charles Woodson was in the right place at the right time and got 9 picks and a fucking trophy.  If you’ve ever watched Woodson play, you’d know his entire game is based on holding receivers and getting away with it.  I could probably cover an NFL receiver if I had a fistful of his jersey the whole game.  The fact that Woodson got this award just goes to show that the writers responsible for voting for these awards don’t even watch half the games.  A fucking trained monkey can read a stat sheet and pick out the player with the most interceptions.

You Stay Classy Philadelphia

I have always despised all things Eagles related.  In fact the only things I hate more are those that are Cowboys related or just from the state of Texas in general.  So to say I was a bit torn here would be a major understatement.  But after this courageous act I just may be able to lend my support to the Eagles this weekend in the hopes that they embarrass the Cowboys and send there D-Bag fans home in misery.

DeSean Jackson kind of runs shit

As a lifelong Giants fan I was raised to despise all things Eagles related.  And if it wasn’t for me being a Yankee fan I would hate the city of Philadelphia through to its core.  Having said that we have give credit where credit is due.  Not only is DeSean Jackson one of only a handful of players to ever be selected for the pro bowl at more than one position but he has a song that Snoop Dogg wrote for him which you can hear on a constant loop at DeSeanJackson10.c0m.  And if that’s not good enough for you DeSean also decided to put out some of his own stuff with Fabolous which you can see below.  It’s always a little awkward to me when athletes rap, and seeing as nobody will ever beat Shaq’s “Kobe how’s my ass taste” I don’t even see why Jackson is bothering.

Week 15 Preview: Atlanta Falcons @ New York Jets

Jones will look to make it 7 out of 9 games with at least 99 yards rushing.

Jones will look to make it 7 out of 9 games with at least 99 yards rushing.

Atlanta Falcons @ New York Jets

Sunday- December 20th

Meadowlands- East Rutherford, NJ

While the Jets (7-6) have resurrected their playoff hopes with 3 consecutive wins over sub .500 teams, the Falcons (6-7) have gone the opposite way having lost 6 of their last 8 games.  A loss to the Jets will pretty much end any chance the Falcons have of making the playoffs, while a win for the Jets will set them up for a crucial matchup in week 16 vs. the undefeated Indianapolis Colts.  The Falcons lead the all-time series vs. the Jets with 5 victories in 9 matchups, including a 27-14 win in their last meeting back in October of 2005.

Jets Offense vs. Falcons Defense:

Mark Sanchez is expected back at quarterback for the Jets after missing last week’s game vs. Tampa Bay with a knee injury.  With Sunday’s forecast calling for temperatures in the mid 30’s, it will be interesting to see how the California native deals with the cold weather and wind at the Meadowlands.  In his last bout with inclement weather in a week 6 loss vs. the Bills, Sanchez threw 5 interceptions and pretty much sealed his team’s fate in a game they wound up losing 16-13.  He will need to be much better on Sunday if the Jets are to have any chance of beating the Falcons.  But to limit his chances of turning the ball over, the Jets will once again lean on their top ranked rushing offense, led by Thomas Jones and a superb offensive line highlighted by the pro bowl caliber play of D’Brickashaw Ferguson and Nick Mangold.  The Falcons defense enters the game ranked 23rd against the run (117.8 yards allowed per game), so expect them to have a tough time slowing down a Jets rushing attack that’s averaging 169.1 yards per game on the ground.  What’s worse is the Falcons are also giving up 257.8 passing yards per game, ranking them 30th in the NFL.  If teams didn’t have so much success passing against the Falcons, those numbers against the run could be even worse.

EDGE:  Jets Offense

Falcons Offense vs. Jets Defense:

Chris Redman has played respectably since taking over QB duties for an injured Matt Ryan.  He threw the game winning touchdown to Roddy White in his first start vs. Tampa Bay, then struggled against Philadelphia, but redeemed himself with 303 passing yards against a tough Saints secondary last weekend.  With Ryan likely to sit out again this weekend, Redman will look to have similar success against a Jets defense ranked 1st in the NFL against the pass.  The Falcons may get star RB Michael Turner back in this one, which can only be seen as a good thing considering they haven’t rushed for over 100 yards in a game in 5 weeks.  Jerious Norwood and Jason Snelling will share RB duties if Turner can’t give it a go.  Regardless of who handles the ground work for the Falcons, they will find it tough to find room against a Jets defense ranked 1st in the NFL in total defense and 11th against the run.  The Jets defense has really come together in recent weeks, developing a chemistry that has them playing like the top ranked defense that the numbers portray.  No matter who winds up starting at the key offensive positions for the Falcons, I expect the Jets defense to be dominant in this game once again.

EDGE: Jets Defense

Bottom Line:

Despite the recent poor play of the Falcons, they’re still the best team the Jets have played since their loss to the Patriots back in week 11.  The Jets must come out motivated and execute the game plan on both sides of the ball.  If Sanchez can limit his mistakes, the Jets will win this game.  If he’s turning the ball over, it will open up the door for an upset and potentially close the door on the Jets’ playoff hopes.

Prediction:  Jets  23  Falcons 13

Dubbs’ Week 15 Picks

846-s307-Cardinals_Bears_Football_standalone_prod_affiliate_74

Last Week’s Record: 10-6

Overall Record: 107-103

Indianapolis Colts(-6.5) @ Jacksonville Jaguars-The Jaguars desperately need this game to hold onto their slimming lead in the AFC wild card.  I hope the Colts shit all over them.  Dubbs’ Pick: The Colts

Dallas Cowboys @ New Orleans Saints(-7.5)-The only thing worse than being a Mets fan is being a Cowboys fan.  At least I don’t have to watch Tony Homo frown and mope through every interview after my team collapses down the stretch.  Dubbs’ Pick: The Saints

New England Patriots(-7.5) @ Buffalo Bills- As much as I despise the Patriots, there is no doubt in my mind that they will find a way to hold on and win the AFC East.  Their defense isn’t what it used to be, but the Bills offense isn’t exactly a juggernaut either.  I like New England to get back on track this week in a decisive victory over Buffalo.  Dubbs’ Pick: The Patriots

Arizona Cardinals(-10.5) @ Detroit Lions- The Lions lost 48-3 last week, and they are now forced to play out the rest of the season without starting running back Kevin Smith.  Dubbs’ Pick: The Cardinals

Miami Dolphins @ Tennessee Titans(-3.5)- Even if the Titans don’t make the playoffs, Chris Johnson is still playing for a league MVP award.  He goes off for another 200 yards this week and the Titans roll to victory at home.  Dubbs’ Pick: The Titans

Cleveland Browns @ Kansas City Chiefs(-2.5)- Break out the champagne!  Mangini won his second game of the season!  Too bad moral victories don’t count for shit.  Jamaal Charles brings this crappy defense back down to Earth this week.  Dubbs’ Pick: The Chiefs

Houston Texans(-9.5) @ St. Louis Rams-The Rams lost 47-7 last week.  Steven Jackson is limping down the stretch with a bad back, and St. Louis is on their third quarterback due to an injury to Kyle Boller.  You know things are bad when you’re hoping Kyle Boller will play this week.  Dubbs’ Pick: The Texans

Atlanta Falcons @ New York Jets(-6.5)- The Jets are going to harass Atlanta’s quarterback all day on Sunday, regardless of who gets the start.  With no running game, the Falcons are in for a long day in the Meadowlands.  Dubbs’ Pick: The Jets

San Francisco 49ers @ Philadelphia Eagles(-7.5)-The Niners are coming off of a big win against the Cardinals at home, mostly thanks to 7 Arizona turnovers.  The Eagles will do a much better job protecting the ball, and should have no problems handling San Fran at home this week.  Dubbs’ Pick: The Eagles

Chicago Bears @ Baltimore Ravens(-10.5)- As awful as they have been, Chicago has only been blown out once this season.  I like them to keep it close against a struggling offense in unfavorable weather conditions.  Dubbs’ Pick: The Bears

Cincinnati Bengals @ San Diego Chargers(-6.5)-

Dubbs’ Pick: The Chargers

Oakland Raiders @ Denver Broncos(-13.5)-Now that Gradkowski is done for the year, the Raiders are going with Charlie Frye against one of the best pass defenses in the league.  This one will be over by the half.  Dubbs’ Pick: The Broncos

Green Bay Packers @ Pittsburgh Steelers(-0.5)-The Steelers are just a different team when Troy Polomalu doesn’t play.  They can’t stop anyone on defense, and it seems like Roethlisberger still hasn’t fully recovered from the concussion he suffered 3 weeks ago against the Chiefs.  The Packers are on a roll right now, and I expect them to easily handle the floundering Steelers.  Dubbs’ Pick:The Packers

Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Seatle Seahawks(-7.5)-Jim Mora came out this week and admitted that the NFL views the Seahawks as “soft”.  No shit.  Give me the points.  Dubbs’ Pick:The Bucs

Minnesota Vikings(-7.5) @ Carolina Panthers- The Panthers have struggled this year against teams that run the ball well.  With snow in the forecast for Sunday, I fully expect Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor to provide the majority of the offense.  Dubbs’ Pick: The Vikings

New York Giants(-3.5) @ Washington Redskins- This huge NFC East game may very well determine the winner of the division.  While Washington has been playing better since Sherman Lewis took over the play calling on offense and New York’s defense has been shitting the bed, I’ll still go with a playoff tested veteran team like the Giants to win this important divisional match up.  Dubbs’ Pick: The Giants

Giants Week 14 Preview: Eagles @ Giants

This sums it up quite nicely. Thank you for speaking on behalf of everyone from Philadelphia.

This sums it up quite nicely. Thank you for speaking on behalf of everyone from Philadelphia.

Philadelphia Eagle @ New York Giants

Giants Stadium: 8:20 pm Sunday December 13th

The last time the Eagles came to the Meadowlands, the Eagles ended the Giants run to consecutive Super Bowl championships.  Well this is a new year and the Eagles have to chance to pretty much finish off the Giants once again as they meet in another huge game.  The rival Eagles come into this game in a tie for 1st place in the NFC East with a record of 8-4.  The Giants come off a big win against the Cowboys with a record of 7-5.  The Giants have a chance to catch the Eagles in the division with a win this week.  Let’s hope that the Romo December swoon will rear its ugly head and the G Men come out victorious.  I hate the Eagles!!!!!!

Giants Offense vs. Eagles Defense

The Giants offense was solid against the Cowboys last week and will look to build on that against the always tough Eagles defense.  Eli Manning will have to have one of his better games of the season and do everything in his power to not turnover the ball.  The Giants must also run the ball.  They need to get Jacobs and Bradshaw 40 carries combined in order to keep the high powered Eagles offense off the field.  By running the ball the Giants can use the play action pass and try some shots down field to Hakeem Nicks, who is playing like a rookie of the year, Mario Manningham, and Steve Smith.  Calling Smith’s 2009 season a breakthrough is an understatement.  He is 2nd in the NFC in receiving yards with 979 and his 77 catches are 5 away from tying the all time Giants receptions for a season held by Armani Toomer who set it in the 2002 season.  The Giants offense will have to contend with all world cornerback Asante Samuel, who had two interceptions last week and is always a threat to take it to the house.  The Eagles defensive front 7 is very good, as usual, with Trent Cole putting pressure on the quarterback from the right end position.  The Eagles are extremely good against the pass.  Eli can attest to that after throwing 2 interceptions in the last game against the Eagles.  If Jacobs can continue his play from last week and Eli can make a throw or two this could mean big things for the Giants.  Unfortunately the Giants offense is too inconsistent to give them the nod.

EDGE: Eagles Defense

Eagles Offense vs. Giants Defense

The Eagles offense is scary point blank.  They have weapons at every skill position.  The wide outs are both young and dynamic, running back and fullback are asking Westbrook who?, the QB is playing like a pro bowler, and even the tight end can go out and catch the deep pass.  Jeremy Maclin and DeSean Jackson have cornerbacks losing sleep.  They are both extremely fast and can do the deep route like few in this league.  Aaron Ross and Corey Webster need to be on their A game this week or the Giants could be down by a few touchdowns in the blink of an eye.  LeSean McCoy and Leonard Weaver are both doing a superb job in the absence of Brian Westbrook, whose has been ruled out of this game with a concussion which has sidelined him for the last 2 weeks.  Leonard Weaver is the one who has really stuck out.  We is doing it all for the Eagles, running the ball effectively and making big plays out of the back field receiving.  For the first time in Donovan McNabb’s career he finally has a multitude of weapons at his disposal and that is very scary.  The Giants defense finally decided to show up last week in a big game and they will need to keep that going against an even more dangerous offense this week.  Osi and Tuck put a lot of pressure on the quarterback which forces errant throws and turnovers.  The Eagles do not like to run, just like the Cowboys last week.  If the defense can get to McNabb and make him uncomfortable the Giants could have a chance.  All in all I can’t go against an offense that has so many weapons.

EDGE: Eagles Offense

The Eagles and the Giants are always a big game, especially in December.  The Giants need this one in order to get back in the division race and the Eagles need to win to stay on top of the East.  This should be another great one!!! There is nothing better than Eagles Giants in the cold weather late in the season.  Let’s hope the Giants are coming into their own and pull out another big win against a division rival.

Prediction: Eagles 38  Giants 31

Dubbs’ Week 14 Picks

ray-rice

Last Week’s Record: 4-12

Overall Record: 97-97

Pittsburgh Steelers(-9.5) @ Cleveland Browns- The Steelers have been pitiful the past 4 weeks.  They could be favored by 30 against Mangini’s Browns and I’d still pick them.  Dubbs’ Pick: The Steelers

New Orleans Saints(-9.5) @ Atlanta Falcons-Chris Redman and Jason Snelling.  Need I say more?  Dubbs’ Pick: The Saints

Green Bay Packers(-3.5) @ Chicago Bears- Chicago scored 17 points last week at home against the Rams.  Charles Woodson should pick off Cutler at least 3 times this week, so I don’t see anyway the Bears can cover this spread.  Dubbs’ Pick:The Packers

Denver Broncos @ Indianapolis Colts(-7.5)- A great pass defense vs. a great pass offense.  I’m expecting this to be a low scoring game, so I’ll take the points.  Dubbs’ Pick: The Broncos

Buffalo Bills @ Kansas City Chiefs(-0.5)- Buffalo struggled last week against one of the best defenses in the league.  This week they travel to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs pitiful defense.  I like the Bills running game to have a big day and control the clock.  Dubbs’ Pick: The Bills

New York Jets(-3.5) @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Mark “Dirty” Sanchez will be sitting out this weekend’s game with a sprained knee.  That means Kellen Clemens will be under center, and the Jets will be running all day.  I like one of the best run offenses in the league against one of the worst defenses in the league.  Dubbs’ Pick: The Jets

Miami Dolphins @ Jacksonville Jaguars(-2.5)- I might actually hate the Jaguars more than I hate the Dolphins right now.  Dubbs’ Pick: The Dolphins

Detroit Lions @ Baltimore Ravens(-13.5)-Even with sleet, snow and rain in the forcast, 13.5 points against the Lions defense should be no problem.  Now that Stafford is going to rest his separated shoulder and sit out the rest of the season, there’s no reason to think the Lions will score any points.  Dubbs’ Pick: The Ravens

Seattle Seahawks @ Houston Texans(-6.5)- The Texans are now 5-7, which means they need to win this week to stay on pace for their usual .500 regular season finish.  Dubbs’ Pick: The Texans

Cincinnati Bengals @ Minnesota Vikings(-6.5)-The Vikings took a beating last week, but it’s tough to win when your star running back carries the ball 13 times for only 19 yards.  Adrian Peterson has struggled in the latter part of the season, but I think he’ll right the ship on Sunday.  He probably won’t break 100 yards against the Bengals 2nd ranked run defense, but he should have a healthy enough average to open up the passing game for Favre.  Dubbs’ Pick: The Vikings

Carolina Panthers @ New England Patriots(-13.5)- The Patriots are stumbling down the stretch, and their lead in the AFC East is down to just one game.  I like their offense to put up plenty of points in a must win game.  Dubbs’ Pick: The Patriots

St. Louis Rams @ Tennessee Titans(-12.5)- I’m expecting Chris Johnson to have a huge week against the Rams defense.  He could very easily surpass 200 total yards, which usually equates to big points and a Titans victory.  Dubbs’ Pick: The Titans

Washington Redskins(-1.5) @ Oakland Raiders-The Raiders have played well at home all season, even when that bum Jamarcus Russell was taking snaps.  Now that they have a quarterback who can complete more than 30% of his passes, I like them to beat an under-manned Redskins team flying across the country.  Dubbs’ Pick: The Raiders

San Diego Chargers @ Dallas Cowboys(-3.5)- It’s December, so it’s time for the Cowboys annual collapse.  In all fairness, they have a very tough schedule coming up starting with San Diego on Sunday, so they probably shouldn’t win too many games this month anyway.  Dubbs’ Pick:The Chargers

Philadelphia Eagles @ New York Giants(-0.5)-The forecast calls for snow on Sunday night in New York, so this should be a low scoring game.  The Eagles win the turnover battle and pull out the victory.  Dubbs’ Pick: The Eagles

Arizona Cardinals(-3.5) @ San Francisco 49ers-The Cardinals and 49ers both have great run defenses, which should neutralize Frank Gore and Tim Hightower.  The pick gets  a lot easier when deciding between Alex Smith and Kurt Warner.  Dubbs’ Pick: The Cardinals

FANTASY FOOTBALL RECAP: TOP PERFORMERS OF WEEK 13

murphy

Tony Romo  QB- Dallas Cowboys  (Standard Fantasy Pts in Wk 13:  33)

Romo completed 41 of 55 passes in a tough loss to the Giants on Sunday.  He threw for 392 yards and 3 touchdowns and completed 10 passes for 104 yards and a touchdown to his favorite target, WR Miles Austin.  Romo has now thrown for over 300 yards in 6 games this season.  But stats don’t always translate into wins and the Cowboys have a history of struggling in the month of December.  Let’s see how they fare next week at home against a tough Chargers team before claiming another December collapse.

Bruce Gradkowski  QB- Oakland Raiders  (Standard Fantasy Pts in Wk 13: 32)

Gradkowski is one of four newcomers to YMM’s weekly fantasy football recap for week 13.  After his stellar performance in Sunday’s win vs. the defending champion Pittsburgh Steelers, one can’t help but wonder why it took the Raiders so long to replace the struggling Jamarcus Russell.  Gradkowski completed 20 of 33 passes for 308 yards and 3 touchdowns, including the game winner to Louis Murphy with just 9 seconds left in the game.  I wouldn’t expect another statistical output like this from Gradkowski, but he’s certainly worth a look off waivers for the remainder of the season.

Louis Murphy  WR- Oakland Raiders  (Standard Fantasy Pts in Wk 13: 24)

Murphy has easily been the Raiders best and most consistent receiver in 2009.  In Sunday’s win vs. the Steelers, Murphy caught 4 passes for 128 yards and 2 big touchdowns.  His first score came on a 75 yard bomb from Gradkowski that gave the Raiders the lead late in the 3rd quarter, and his second score was the game winner from Gradkowski that ultimately knocked off the defending champs.

Devin Thomas  WR- Washington Redskins  (Standard Fantasy Pts in Wk 13: 23)

Thomas had a breakout performance in the Redskins overtime loss to the Saints on Sunday.  He caught 7 passes from QB Jason Campbell for 100 yards and 2 touchdowns.  It appears the Redskins may have found their new #1 receiver with the season long struggles of Santana Moss, but then again, it was only one week.  Let’s see if Thomas can put up similar numbers this week when the Redskins travel to Oakland to play the Raiders.

Jermichael Finley  TE- Green Bay Packers  (Standard Fantasy Pts in Wk 13: 19)

There’s something about Monday Night Football that motivates Finley.  Earlier in the year, Finley has a career game against Minnesota on Monday night, catching 6 passes for 128 yards and a score.  In last night’s game against the Ravens, Finley was solid again, catching 7 balls for 79 yards and 2 touchdowns.  He has clearly emerged as one of Aaron Rodgers “go to guys” in the red zone.

It’s about time

As Domenik Hixon finally crossed the goal line after his 79-yard punt-return journey, the man with the close-cropped silver hair and reddening face went wild.

Giants coach Tom Coughlin raced onto the field and forcefully pumped his right arm, windmill style. Then he did it again.

“That was a huge emotional moment for everybody on the sideline,” Coughlin said later.

Said Justin Tuck, “To still see him get excited like he does, it lets you know the passion he has for this football team, and you can’t help but rally behind that.”

The exultation was a release all the Giants needed so very badly.
