- Nate Robinson was suspiciously absent from the Knicks last night here, home with flu-like symptoms — but he might be absent, period. Coming off his third slam-dunk title, Robinson again is being shopped, with the trade deadline approaching tomorrow and the Boston trade rumors resurfacing again yesterday. The Knicks deem Robinson purely as a shooting guard, and his departure would open up more playing time for rookie Toney Douglas. Since the Knicks have no plans to re-sign him, they hope a playoff-bound team such as the Celtics will pounce. The Knicks and Celtics started talking trade in December, when Robinson was banished. Robinson can veto any deal, but Boston could be one he does not. Coach Mike D’Antoni loves Eddie House, who has an expiring contract. In his last outing, Robinson got into a brief shouting match with D’Antoni. Robinson did not make the trip because the club did not want him to infect the club.
- The Houston Rockets have narrowed their long-running quest to trade Tracy McGrady to offers from the New York Knicks and Chicago Bulls and plan to choose between the offers Wednesday, according to sources with knowledge of the Rockets’ thinking. One source close to the process told ESPN.com that the Rockets, after intense talks with both teams leading up to Thursday’s trading deadline, are determined to finalize a deal for McGrady and are leaning toward taking the Knicks’ offer.
I honestly hope both of these deals get done today. The Knicks have 19 wins so any talk of a playoff spot at this point is just retarded. The Knicks need to cut as much salary as humanly possible to give them a real shot at landing the big prize this off-season, and both those deals help that prospect tremendously.
We’ll keep you up to speed on any developments regarding these deals or any other NBA trade deadline news throughout the day.

NY POST – The Knicks and Rockets were closing in on a blockbuster deal yesterday that not only would bring Tracy McGrady to New York — but more important, could open up $9.5 million of additional cap space that would give the Knicks a chance to sign two All-Star free agents to maximum contracts this summer.
“We’ve made progress,” a source involved in the talks told The Post, an indication an agreement could be reached today.
The price the Knicks could pay for getting Jared Jeffries ($6.9M) off their books in this Rockets trade is giving up on their disappointing rookie lottery pick Jordan Hill, and possibly a 2012 first-round pick.
Another league source said last night the holdup is that Knicks president Donnie Walsh is still unsure he wants to surrender Hill. Still, Hill remains on the table as talks continue.
The bottom line is Donnie Walsh has to find a way to get this deal done. Although I’ve always been a fan of his I could give a rats ass about T-Mac, this deal is all about cap room.
Unless you have been living on the Moon for the last 2 years you are well aware that this Summers NBA Free Agent class may be the most talented, and deepest free agent class we have ever seen in any sport, period. So the importance for the Knicks to shed as much cap room as possible going into this off-season is huge. As the Knicks payroll stands today they would not be able to sign two max contracts, only one. Making the chances of Lebron landing in NYC that much less. If this deal were to get done the Knicks would rid themselves of Jarred Jeffries ugly contract, which would ultimately allow them to sign two max contracts this summer. Right now I see this as the Knicks only chance of luring Lebron James to NY next season, so to say this is a very important move for the Knicks is a huge understatement.
Cross your fingers Knicks fans……

ESPN — Allen Iverson will not be the answer for the New York Knicks, a team official said Friday.
After two days of debating the pros and cons of adding the four-time NBA scoring champion, the Knicks decided late Thursday night not to offer the newly unrestricted free agent a one-year contract.
“We are definitely not pursuing him anymore,” the Knicks source said.
Knicks president Donnie Walsh was expected to speak to the media at the team’s facility Friday at noon ET.
Well I guess that’s the end of that idea……It doesn’t really matter seeing as the Knicks suck either way. I just hope he finds a place to play soon.

INDIANAPOLIS — Knicks team president Donnie Walsh gave strong indications he will make an offer to Allen Iverson, possibly as soon as tonight, when the veteran guard clears waivers at 6 p.m. and the A.I. New York Era could begin by the weekend.
A source said coach Mike D’Antoni told Walsh Tuesday night he is on board with pursuing Iverson, fearing the team would continue its titanic collapse. Last night, the Knicks rallied from 19 points down late in the third quarter to upset the Pacers, 110-103, at Conseco Field House and move to 2-9.
Walsh said he hoped to have a decision one way or another by tonight, and all appearances now are he wants to make the move. The Knicks don’t play until Saturday in New Jersey.
Well I guess things can change pretty quick in this town because just a few days ago Donnie Walsh said it was “very unlikely” the Knicks would make any offers to Allen Iverson. You know as much as I do that bringing Iverson to the Knicks will mean absolutely nothing for the fate of this team this year but I still really hope this happens. A.I.’s always been one of my favorite players, so to see him playing his type of basketball in a Knicks uniform would not only be nice, but it would also make the Knicks that much more watchable this year. Like I said, don’t expect A.I to change anything here in NY. We are still going to suck giant moose nuts all season long with or without Iverson, but it will definitely be a lot more entertaining and give me at least a small reason to watch the Knicks get blown out every night.
